Practice philosophy: Do it right the first time while treating patients in a considerate and caring fashion, the way I would expect to be treated. The most important part of my job, outside of direct patient care, is to communicate effectively, developing and maintaining a sustainable physician patient relationship. Knowledge is power and I aim to empower my patients.
Born and raised in Indiana, I went to college at DePauw University to play soccer and study chemistry, possibly, I thought, to become a teacher. While majoring in chemistry I decided to take entrance exams and apply to medical school. I chose Case Western Reserve University because of its unique nontraditional educational style and developed a fascination with anatomy and physiology that led to an interest in surgical specialties and a surgical internship at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
Drawn by cutting edge technology, I started a diagnostic imaging residency in 1993 and found an immediate home in Vascular and Interventional Radiology, melding my early surgical and patient care skills with the technologic advances in minimally invasive procedures. My path was not complete without fellowship training and I was accepted into a two year academic path position with The Dotter Interventional Institute at OHSU in 1997. I fell in love with the Northwest and was excited to make Portland my permanent home when I joined a small imaging group in Tualatin.
While developing the practice in Tualatin over the next 10 years to include cutting edge advances such as acute stroke treatment, Endograft repair of aortic aneurysms, carotid stenting and kyphoplasty treatment of symptomatic vertebral compression fractures, it became increasingly evident that there was a better way to care for patients in addition to a general need for vascular and interventional radiology services in the greater Portland metropolitan community. In 2011 the practice ultimately left the confines of traditional diagnostic radiology to become Interventional and Vascular Consultants.
When I’m not working, I still love to kick a soccer ball around with my daughter, and spend time with my family.
